Palau de la Virreina
Palau de la Virreina. Palace on Barcelona's main walking street La Rambla built between 1772 and 1775. The Virreina palace is on La Rambla 99 next to the Boqueria market on the part of La Rambla street called 'La Rambla de les Flors.'

This baroque-rococo palace was originally built between 1772 and 1777 for the Viceroy of Peru and Marquis of Castellbell Manuel Amat i Junyent

The Viceroy died before moving in and his younger widow lived there for many years hence the name the 'Palace of the Viceroy's wife.'

Today the Palau de la Virreina belongs to the city of Barcelona. It is partially open to the public for cultural events and art exhibitions under the name 'La Virreina Centre de la Imatge.'

Visit the website for information about current exhibitions. The Palau de la Virreina is the focal point for the annual festival in October Les Festes del Roser, also called the 'Festa Major de la Rambla'.
